Spain tops the leader board with most “Blue Flag Beaches” in 2018
Since 1987 Spain has been awarded with more Blue Flag beaches than any other country and that trend will continue in 2018. This year will see a total of 590 flags proudly displayed along the coastline with an additional 101 flags awarded for Spain’s marinas and 5 flags for cruise ship ports. Runners-up were Greece, followed by France, Turkey and Italy
Blue Flags are awarded by the European Environmental Foundation and the certification recognises the beaches with the best water quality, provision of services available, specialised life-saving services, signposted areas for water sports, environmental awareness along with ensuring safety and access related criteria are met.
